WHAT WE DO

 The Ontario Student Nutrition Program (OSNP) in the Southwest is just one of 15 regional lead Agencies across Ontario. The Victorian Order of Nurses is the administrative agency that houses the OSNP program in the South West.

  • Provide grant funding for school breakfast, snack or lunch programs
  • Provide start up assistance and ongoing support to programs
  • Work with school boards, public health units and other community partners to develop a network of support for programs locally
  • Advocate the importance of student nutrition programs
  • Invest in evidence based research to better understand the health and academic outcomes associated with program implementation

 Guiding Principles

  Several principles are in place to guide the effective development and delivery of student nourishment programs.

  These include:

  • Programs adopt a universal approach to program delivery ensuring that all students have an equal opportunity to participate regardless of socioeconomic status

  • Nutritious food is served in accordance to guidelines which include at least one daily serving of fruits or vegetables

  • Programs work together with thier schools and communities to share their knowledge, experience and resources

  • Parents and students are involved in program planning and delivery to ensure long term sustainability
